KARACHI (Kashmir English): In a remarkable feat, Pakistan’s rising squash star, Noor Zaman, won the final of the inaugural WSF U23 World Squash Championships on Thursday.

In a final match held at Karachi’s DHA Creek Club, Zaman defeated Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey in a stellar comeback.

Zaman was facing a slump with a score of 2-0, as the Egyptian clinched the first and third set 9-11 and 4-11, respectively.

However, the Pakistani ace regained momentum and dominated the next three sets of the five-set game, narrowly winning 11-9, and then delivered a dominant 11-7 victory in the deciding fifth game.

Talking after winning the title, Zaman said that after being two points down, his only thought was “to focus on my game”. “I had it in my mind to fight till the very end,” he added.

The second-seeded Zaman faced Torkey in the final after defeating Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran 3-0 on Wednesday in the semifinal stage of the event.

“The crowd support has been incredible, and I’ll give everything to win this title for Pakistan,” said Zaman after the semi-final.
