MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In a recent crackdown against substandard oil and ghee, the Muzaffarabad Food Authority has banned the sale of Momin Banaspati in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Laboratory report issued by the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, Momin Banaspati has been declared harmful for human health, and urged to ban the product immediately to avoid any health complications.
In a notification issued by the Secretary Food Authority under the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority Act 2017, section 25 (Unsafe Food), the Muzaffarabad administration sealed batch number 27 of Momin Banaspati, manufactured in February 2025.
Additionally, the food safety officers have been instructed to strictly implement this decision in all districts so that the public can be protected from substandard and harmful food.
Earlier, the AJK Food Authority in Muzaffarabad intensified its crackdown against substandard and unregistered items.
In a recent operation in Jhelum Valley, the food authority fined and seized a large number of substandard and unregistered food items, beverages, frozen food, oil, ghee, and snacks on Monday.
According to the details, the Food Authority Muzaffarabad team, under the supervision of District Food Controller Muzaffarabad Abrar Ahmed Mir, conducted the operation.
The food authority team also issued correction notices to several business food operators.
Food Controller Abrar Ahmed Mir said that it is a legal offence to trade in unregistered food items under the Food Authority Act 2017, and efforts are being made to ensure the supply of standard food items.
“Traders selling substandard and unhealthy food items do not deserve any concession, and strict action will be taken against such people,” he said.
The food authority official reiterated that no items can be sold except those approved by the Food Authority.
