LAHORE (Kashmir English): Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie has initiated legal action against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over contract dispute.

He has alleged that the PCB didn’t pay financial dues following his resignation in December 2024 with not clear so far whether the International Cricket Council (ICC) has the jurisdiction to intervene.

Gillespie claims that the PCB owes him money for services rendered during his tenure as head coach of Pakistan cricket team. He claims bonuses for a Test series win over England and an ODI victory against Australia last year.

PCB denies claims

The PCB, however, has denied the claims, accusing Gillespie of breaching contract terms by resigning without serving a mandatory four-month notice period.

In a statement, the PCB said: “The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues”.

According to a statement on PCB’s website, the board rejected Gillespie’s claims, describing his exit without the required notice as “a clear breach of contractual terms.”

As Gillespie said the PCB had not honoured written financial assurances, it remains unclear whether the ICC has the jurisdiction to mediate the dispute.

The board officials have indicated that legal options remain open. They maintain that no outstanding payments are due to Gillespie.

In October 2024, Gillespie was removed from the selection panel and said his role had been reduced to a “matchday strategist.”

He was not selected to coach Pakistan on the South Africa tour in November, with Aaqib Javed replacing him as interim coach, according to the PCB.

The development come a day after the PCB announced a search for a new head coach. Aaqib Javed, who oversaw a run of poor results during his interim stint, is not likely to be retained.
