MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) has launched a dedicated recovery wing for the first time in its history to ensure that revenue targets are met by the deadline of June 30, 2025.

In a major move, the Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department (South Zone) established the Tax Recovery Wing to recover long-pending dues and dead arrears. Assistant Commissioner Inland Revenue, Raja Muhammad Babar Khan, was appointed as the wing’s in-charge through an official circular.

To make the process easier for taxpayers, recovery notices were issued in the Urdu language for the first time. After the deadline passed, the Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Mirpur, Bhimber, and Kotli districts were given the authority to freeze the bank accounts of defaulters.

As a result of these efforts, 12 bank accounts were frozen in the month of June alone, recovering a total of Rs. 26,523,113. Additionally, another Rs. 34,908,134 was collected directly from various taxpayers during the same month.

The Inland Revenue Department announced that the recovery operations, including account freezing and follow-ups with defaulters, will continue until June 30. These actions are part of a larger campaign to recover outstanding taxes and improve financial discipline in the region.

Officials say that these measures not only help meet revenue goals but also send a clear message about accountability. Civil society members and opinion leaders have appreciated the department’s efforts, calling it a strong step toward strengthening state finances.

The department aims to continue this momentum in the coming months and is hopeful that full cooperation from taxpayers will lead to even better results.

By combining strict enforcement with clear communication, the Inland Revenue Department is showing a new level of commitment to ensuring that tax laws are followed and state revenue is protected.
