MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The President of Azad Kashmir appointed Dr Nadeem Haider Bukhari as Acting Vice Chancellor of AJK University in Muzaffarabad after approving Prof Dr Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi’s leave from March 17 to June 2, 2025.
The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced a leadership change, with Dr Nadeem Haider Bukhari appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor. A notification issued by the university confirms that Dr Bukhari will assume charge following the leave approval of Prof Dr Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, the current Vice Chancellor.
According to the official notification, the President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, who also serves as the Chancellor of the university, has sanctioned Prof Dr Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi’s leave on full pay from March 17 2025, to June 2, 2025, covering the remaining 77 days of his vice-chancellorship. Per Section 10(2) of the University of AJK Act 1985, the authority has assigned Dr Nadeem Haider Bukhari, the Senior Most University Meritorious Professor and Dean, to take charge as Acting Vice Chancellor until the appointment of a regular Vice Chancellor.
The notification, issued on March 16, 2025, was signed by Dr Ghulam Murtaza, the Meritorious Professor and Registrar of the university. The notification has been circulated to various university officials, including the Secretary Presidential Affairs, the Private Secretary to the Vice Chancellor, the Dean of Faculties, Directors, Finance and Planning officials, Examination Controller, Chief Librarian, and Public Relations Officer.
Dr Nadeem Haider Bukhari arrives at his position with considerable academic and administrative background. Dr Nadeem Haider Bukhari stands as a senior meritorious professor who serves as the dean of the university at the most distinguished rank. Until the university selects its permanent Vice-Chancellor he will maintain institutional continuity in his position of leadership.
