RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam achieved an unwanted milestone in the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) X, as he became one of the batters with the most ducks in the tournament’s history.
Babar earned this unwanted record as his team played against Quetta Gladiators at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on April 12, where Mohammad Amir sent Babar to pavilion when he was yet to open his account.
Babar’s ninth duck in PSL
It was Babar’s ninth duck in the PSL, going past Kamran Akmal’s tally of eight.
Following this early dismissal, Babar has now equalled the tally of former Peshawar Zalmi wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal and overtaken Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi in the list of players with the most ducks in the tournament’s history.
At present, the record for the most ducks in tournament remains with Islamabad United all-rounder Imad Wasim. He has been dismissed for a duck on 12 occasions. He is followed by former Zalmi pacer Wahab Riaz, who was dismissed without scoring for 10 times.
Babar’s form is under close watch as Peshawar Zalmi look to bounce back in the tournament after a rocky start.
Furthermore, Mohammad Ali of Peshawar Zalmi also found himself on an unwanted list of bowlers as he delivered a pity spell in the ongoing tournament.
Right-arm pacer Ali, who had finished as the second leading wicket-taker in the previous edition with 18 dismissals, had a forgetful start to 2025 campaign.
Ali bowled four overs in his maiden appearance for Peshawar Zalmi against Quetta Gladiators and conceded 57 runs without picking up a single wicket.
His bowling figures of 57/0 remain the second-worst by a Zalmi bowler in the tournament’s history, only behind Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai, who had conceded 62 runs but took two wickets in a PSL 8 clash against Multan Sultans.
