MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir upheld the verdict of the lower courts in the murder case of Ali Muhammad Chacha Advocate, who was shot dead on March 19, 2008.
As per details, the District Criminal Court Mirpur sentenced the two main accused to death and the co-accused to 14 and 7 years of imprisonment on December 23, 2014.
Later, the accused filed the appeals against the sentences were filed in the Shariat Appellate Bench of the High Court.
The court, in its judgment dated December 27, 2022, upheld the decision of the criminal court.
They later moved to the AJK Supreme Court with a case titled “Muhammad Yasin et al. v. Government et al.”
On April 7, the top court announced the verdict and partially upheld the decisions of the subordinate courts.
The court upheld the death sentence awarded to the main accused and has also upheld the sentences of all the other co-accused except one.
The court commuted the sentence of one of the accused for aiding and abetting and has converted the death sentence to life imprisonment.
