MIRPUR (Kashmir Times): President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry has expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of senior journalist, columnist and Editor-in-Chief weekly Kasheer Athar Masood Wani, it was officially said.
He died in Rawalpindi after prolonged illness on Sunday.
In his condolence message issued on Monday, the President extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to Allah the Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace.
The President also paid rich tributes to the deceased for his valuable services in the field of journalism and freedom of press in the country.
The veteran journalist’s demise, he said, was a huge loss for the journalists’ community.
Meanwhile, Amir Hizbul Mujahideen and Chairman of Muttahida Jihad Council Syed Salahuddin Ahmed has also expressed his profound grief over the demise of Wani.

He temrd Athar Wani a fearless soldier of Kashmir freedom struggle.
He said the separation of Athar Masood Wani, who fought on the front of the media, journalist, columnist and intellectual associated with the Kashmir freedom Movement, is extremely painful.
With his separation, the communication front of the freedom movement will be affected to a great extent, he added.
He expressed these views in his condolence statement released to the press.
Late Athar Wani followed in the footsteps of his father and continued to contribute to the freedom struggle till his last breath.
Wani was a fearless and brave person; he never felt any shame or fear in writing and speaking the truth. His funeral prayer was performed in Rawalpindi, which was attended by a large number of Kashmiri community and later laid to rest at a local graveyard.
