AJK PM welcomes National Press Club’s newly-elected office bearers

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has extended his heartfelt felicitations to the newly elected President of the National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad Azhar Jatoi, Secretary General Nayyar Ali, and all other newly elected office bearers.

In a voting held on Monday, Azhar Jatoi of the Journalist Panel was elected as the president of the National Press Club by securing 1090 votes, while Nayyer Ali secured the seat of secretary by 1063 votes. Waqar Abbasi became finance secretary by getting 1065 votes after the counting of votes of three major seats.

In his congratulatory message, the AJK Prime Minister said that in view of the requirements of the modern era, the promotion of independent, responsible, and fact-based journalism is the need of the hour.

“In this era, we are faced with fake news and it is hoped that efforts will be made to combat it from the platform of the National Press Club,” he said in a statement.

Furthermore, the premier congratulated group leader Afzal Butt and said that this success is an expression of the journalists’ full trust in his leadership.

Chaudhry expressed the hope that all the elected office bearers, including Azhar Jatoi, will live up to the trust of the journalists and will ensure freedom of expression along with making efforts for the welfare of journalists.

“Since the National Press Club, Islamabad, has a central position in the country, its elected representatives also have a double responsibility to fulfill their duties to the fullest extent,” the AJK PM concluded.

Information Minister of the AJK Government Maulana Pir Muhammad Mazhar Saeed Shah also congratulated the newly elected President of the National Press Club Islamabad, Azhar Jatoi, Secretary General Nayyar Ali, and all the newly elected office bearers.

In his congratulatory message, the Information Minister expressed the hope that the newly elected office bearers of the National Press Club will play their full role in upholding journalistic values, highlighting public issues and the Kashmir freedom movement, as well as for the welfare and well-being of journalists.
