SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in Indian Illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has said that a just and lasting resolution of the Kashmir dispute, based on United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, is imperative for permanent peace and progress in South Asian region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas in a statement issued in Srinagar, said India has occupied a large part of Jammu and Kashmir against the will of the Kashmiris.

He said Kashmiris have been creating an immortal history of struggle and sacrifices against the illegal Indian occupation for the past 77 years.

He said India wants to maintain its usurping rule over the Kashmiris on the basis of military force and is trying hard to crush their resistance through brutal atrocities and black laws.

Historical facts of Jammu and Kashmir

The spokesperson said India cannot change the historical facts of Jammu and Kashmir through its baseless narrative and if it really wants peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir, it will have to come towards a solution to the Kashmir dispute.

He said the Kashmir issue cannot be resolved by military force, rather its solution lies in dialogue only

Meanwhile, citizens in Srinagar and other areas of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, while talking to media representatives, said the silence prevailing in the area can never be called peace.

They said Indian soldiers and paramilitary personnel have created an atmosphere of fear and terror in the area through acts of coercion and tyranny, and the occupying Indian officials are trying to suppress the voice of the people by force.

They said after the revocation of the special status of the area in August 2019, India has intensified its violent campaign against Kashmiris, imposed restrictions on the media and prevented journalists from bringing the truth to light.

The citizens said the atmosphere of silence currently seen in the area and which India is calling peace is actually not peace but fear and terror that has been spread here by force.

Human rights activists and political observers also say that India is trying to silence the voices of freedom in the occupied territory through acts of repression and oppression and is giving the name of peace to fear and terror.

A former professor on condition of anonymity said “this is the silence established by brutal military force, people are feeling everything as before but they have stopped expressing their feelings out of fear.”
