LONDON (Kashmir English): The British Members of Parliament have demanded an international airport in Mirpur, a long-standing demand of the people of the Azad Kashmir’s second-largest city.
In a letter written to Prime Minister Shehbaz, led by Kashmiri-origin British MP Muhammad Yasin, MPs said that Mirpur’s international airport will open new doors of development and progress for overseas Kashmiris and Pakistanis.
The letter was officially handed over to the Pakistani High Commissioner in the UK, Dr. Faisal.
Jammu Kashmir Self Determination Movement International Founder Chairman Raja Najabat Hussain has said that the British MPs’ letter to the Prime Minister of Pakistan has urged to fulfill the long-standing demand of the people of Mirpur, also known as Mini London, and to make the strong and long-standing demand of the Kashmiri and Pakistani overseas community.
The letter mentioned that an international airport in Mirpur could revolutionise travel facilities for the Kashmiri and Pakistani diaspora communities worldwide.
For years, the overseas communities have been advocating for an international airport in Mirpur, which would provide a direct link to their ancestral homeland.
The proposed airport is expected to cater to over one million British Kashmiris living in the UK, as well as the neighboring Punjab districts of Jhelum and Gujrat.
The establishment of an international airport in Mirpur is poised to unlock extensive economic development opportunities in the region. It will also strengthen relations between various sectors, benefiting not only the local population but also Kashmiris and Pakistanis worldwide.
The letter, signed by prominent British MPs, including Muhammad Yasin, Debbie Abrahams, and Afzal Khan, among others, demonstrates a united front in support of the Mirpur International Airport demand. Khalid Mahmood Khaliq, President of the Overseas Advisory Council for the United Kingdom, has also thrown his weight behind the initiative.
As the proposal gains momentum, the Kashmiri and Pakistani overseas communities are filled with renewed hope and excitement.
