MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nadeem Haider Bukhari, has directed the establishment of complaint cells at the varsity’s campuses to enhance governance and responsiveness toward complaints of students.

As per details, the vice chancellor said that a central secretariat will be established at the Public Relations Department of the Vice Chancellor’s Office to oversee the complaint cells.

“This initiative aims to ensure the swift resolution of concerns raised by students, faculty, and staff, fostering a transparent and efficient communication system,” the university spokesperson said in a statement.

Furthermore, it added that with this step, UAJK reaffirms its commitment to “academic excellence, student welfare, and a supportive campus environment.” More details to come, the varsity spokesperson hoped.

The decision came days after the President of Azad Kashmir appointed Dr. Nadeem Haider Bukhari as Acting Vice Chancellor of AJK University.

Bukhari’s appointment came after UAJK VC Prof Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi went on leave from March 17 to June 2, 2025. A notification issued by the university confirms that Dr Bukhari will assume charge following the leave approval of Prof Dr Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, the current Vice Chancellor.

Earlier last week, the university administration sacked Adnan Altaf from the position of Deputy Director of the Student Affairs UAJK City campus and appointed Junaid Ahmed Mir.

According to the notification, “Adnan Altaf, a lecturer in the Department of Public Health, has been relieved of his additional responsibilities as Deputy Director of Student Affairs. His reassignment comes as part of an administrative decision approved by the Vice-Chancellor of UAJK.”

Earlier this month, a violent student protest erupted over fee-related issues, which ignited after the university administration and police initiated a crackdown against the students.

During the protest at the City Campus, the police arrested and baton-charged the student protestors to disperse them, which led to the announcement of the closure of all educational institutions across Azad Kashmir by student organisations.

However, the protest movement was called off after the district and university administrations agreed to meet the demands of students.
