JEHLUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): The current heavy snow and rain in Jhelum Valley have disrupted daily life, cut off Leepa Valley, and created hardships for residents, especially during Ramadan, as severe weather continues.

Heavy rains and snowfall have been lashing Hattian Bala, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and its surrounding areas since last night, significantly increasing the intensity of cold weather. Higher elevation areas have started receiving snowfall that disrupts the regular activities of residents.

Heavy snow accumulates in Leepa Valley and Chikkar along with Sudhan Gali and Pandu alongside other elevated areas while plains experience continuous rainfall that converts roads into challenging muddy paths for local residents. Due to the snowfall, Leepa Valley has been completely cut off from the district headquarters, leaving the local population stranded.

The ongoing rains and snowfall have made it increasingly difficult for citizens to manage their daily activities. The arrival of Ramadan makes residents extremely concerned about acquiring food and essential needs when breaking their fasts during Suhoor and Iftar. Markets face reduced customer numbers during the severe conditions because most people remain indoors, limiting their presence in shopping areas. This leads to worries about stock shortages among residents.

According to the Meteorological Department, the current spell of rain and snowfall is expected to persist for the next few days. Authorities have been put on high alert to deal with any emergencies that may arise. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

The district administration together with Pakistan Army are collaborating to solve weather-related difficulties as they inform the public about their actions. The restoration of essential services along with electricity receives ongoing work as relief operations maintain their efforts within affected locations.

Despite the challenges posed by the harsh weather, residents have expressed patience and resilience, viewing this difficult period as a test of faith during the holy month of Ramadan. However, they have urged the government and welfare organisations to ensure a steady supply of food and fuel so that fasting individuals do not face additional hardships.
