MIRPUR (AJK): Public-sector Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Mirpur region hosted a grand awareness walk here on Monday to promote adult and distance education in the country.
The event was aimed at highlighting the University’s continuous efforts for promoting distance education, particularly adult education, according to Sheikh Faisal Shehzad Regional Director AIOU Mirpur, AJK. He was speaking to participants of the walk.
“In today’s fast-paced world, distance learning serves as an effective means of acquiring education, especially for individuals who are unable to attend traditional institutions due to time constraints or other challenges”, the Regional Director said adding that the University is committed to providing equal educational opportunities to people of all ages, enabling them to contribute to societal development.
The AIOU official continued that the walk was also aimed at emphasizing the importance of education and promote public awareness about the benefits of distance learning. He was of the view that the event will help encourage greater public participation in education, and inform people about the accessibility of learning through distance education.
The walk, attended by people from different sections of life, started starting from Muslim Hands Cricket Academy, Quaid-e-Azam International Sports Stadium and culminated at Kashmir Press Club Mirpur. A diverse group of participants from political, social, and educational backgrounds joined the event, showing their support for the cause of education.
Prominent attendees included Prof. Waris Jarral, Mirza Wajahit Baig, Imtiaz Hussain, Arsalan Jat, Prof. Mahmood Hussain, Malik Rafiq, Dr. Tahir Mahmood, Mahmood Ahmed, Azhar Iqbal, Sheikh Faisal Shahzad (Regional Director), Prof. Sardar Hafizullah, Mohammad Sardar Hafizullah, Dr. Amjad Ansari, Supreme Head of Kashmir Institute of Special Education AJK, and Zahid Bashir Chaudhry. Their participation underscored the collective commitment towards promoting education, particularly in Mirpur.
