ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The United States and Iran could resume peace talks as early as next week in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The WSJ, citing people familiar with the matter, claimed both sides are working with mediators on a one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding leading to a framework for a month-long negotiation process aimed at ending the war.

Iran’s nuclear programme

The discussions may revolve around Iran’s nuclear programme, easing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, and the possible transfer of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpiles to another country. “Key issues remain unresolved,” it noted.

The report, however, cautioned that the extent of sanctions relief remains a major point of contention and could still derail talks.

The Journal further said that if negotiations move forward, the initial one-month framework could be extended by mutual agreement.
